Maths Mastery – The importance of manipulatives
This bespoke maths project focuses on teaching the national curriculum through mastery of mathematics. Bridging the theoretical and practical divide is a critical component of our pedagogical approach.
The concrete-pictorial-abstract (CPA) approach is a key feature of maths mastery teaching and yet there is a wealth of research indicating that concrete resources (manipulatives) can be underutilised or ineffectively used. We strongly believe in the importance of increasing teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the effectiveness of manipulatives.
Pupils who have a firm grasp on mathematical concepts are one step closer to becoming true mathematicians, capable of problem solving and reasoning. Our goal is to provide them with the tools they need – and we can best do this through supporting our staff via this specialist training.
