This is a Year 6 course/competition which runs across all Maamulaha schools. Pupils explore, in depth, one poem a week for 5 weeks. The poets and poems selected stimulate discussion of themes and styles with pupils using this creative environment to produce their own versions and develop their poetic voice.
Mammulaha pupils collaborate and inspire one another across the schools via a weekly blog providing rich discussions and the opportunity to share examples of their work. After studying the 5 poems, pupils are invited to enter the Maamulaha poetry competition. All poems are published in school publications, while the best are published in a select poets booklet. Each year one pupil is crowned Maamulaha ‘poet laureate’, receiving a special gift and and further opportunities to have their poem shared with the public.
